Dr Amit Varma has been with Fortis Healthcare since 2003. At Fortis, he has performed multiple administrative and clinical roles. Currently he runs the integrated critical care services for Fortis Healthcare ICU network and helps in formulation of Medical Strategy.
Dr Amit Varma completed his MBBS and MD from University of Delhi and his residency from the State University of New York. After his residency, he went on to pursue a Fellowship in Critical Care Medicine and Neonatology at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Centre and super specialized in Cardiac Critical Care. After almost a decade in USA, Dr. Varma began his professional journey in India at the Manipal Heart Foundation in Bangalore and subsequently moved to the Narayan Hrudayalaya Hospital to establish one of the largest intensive care units in the country.
Apart from his medical and management background, Dr Varma continues to be a visiting faculty at the University of Pittsburgh and the Cleveland Clinic, a healthcare consultant to the World Bank and European Commission with special interest in quality. He is currently on the editorial board of the Indian Journal of Critical Care Medicine and annals of paediatric cardiology. He is a member of the Executive councils of the Paediatric Cardiac Society of India, Society for Critical Care Medicine (USA) and the Asian Paediatric Cardiac Surgery and cardiology. Dr. Varma also is the Medical Editor for CNN-IBN.
